Senior Backend Engineer — Careem (Pakistan / Jordan)

Careem is building the Everything App for the greater Middle East — ride-hailing, food delivery, groceries, and payments used by 70+ million customers across 70+ cities. We're entering an AI-powered chapter and looking for senior backend talent to build the systems that power millions of real-time deliveries every day.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable backend services powering real-time ETA computation and delivery routing across all Careem verticals (Food, Groceries, Abu Dhabi Taxi, Hala).
• Write high-quality, performant Go code — delivering complete features end-to-end and resolving bugs independently.
• Ensure reliability-first engineering: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, plus on-call rotation with defined SLAs.
• Collaborate with a tight-knit backend team across Jordan, Pakistan, and Dubai to shape engineering practices.
• Take ownership of critical infrastructure that directly shapes the customer experience across Careem's delivery products.

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with Golang or a modern OOP language (Java, C#, C++, Kotlin) — Go is our primary stack.
• Strong CS fundamentals: OOP, data structures, and algorithms.
• Proven experience operating and deploying to live production systems.

Nice to have: routing/ETA systems, geospatial or logistics experience, AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker & Kubernetes, and both relational and non-relational databases.
